From the lakeside, this 3,900- square-foot Adirondack-style camp is carefully blended into its secluded environment. The structure is built of natural materials, including bark-on Atlantic White Cedar siding and columns complemented by stained natural-edge siding, a wood shingle roof and local stone. All colors were carefully chosen to blend with the wooded site. The building forms were crafted to echo the feel of the lake camps traditional to the area with low roofs with large overhangs. The client wanted a camp that felt like it had been there for a century. The site is rural and remote on a point of land into the lake. The total site is 11 acres, most of which is wooded backland.
The natural wood finishes are carefully complemented with the use of stick work trim and peeled log elements throughout. The organic stonework and wood help to create a connection from the interior to the surrounding environment. The twig work furnishings and appointments were selected to enhance the relationship with the waterfront site and to also create a cultural environment reflecting the history of the region.
"When I need details in wood...when I need someone who is both craftsman, and knows the reality of construction projects for demanding clients, Jeff Thurston is the one I can count in to come up with solutions. I have experienced Jeff's talent, and have a history of very satisfactory results."
